Understanding the different types of snow and ice treatments

GLS Landscaping and Maintenance has the equipment to remove snow from your parking lot, access roads, and walkways with snow plows and other equipment. But we also have the experience and access to supplies to perform other snow removal techniques, both before a storm and after the snow and ice have accumulated.

Pre Treatment

In anticipation of a storm, a form of anti-icing where chemicals are applied to the road up to 48 hours before a winter storm to prevent a bond from forming between the pavement and the snow and ice when the storm starts.

Post Treatment

After a storm has occurred, materials spread along cleared roadways, parking lots, and sidewalks. This post-storm treatment is applied to the property vehicle and pedestrian accessways to prevent them from re-freezing during the night.

Brining

Brine is a blended solution of salt and water, and when applied before a storm it prevents snow and ice from bonding with the surface. The result is slushy snow that is easily walked or driven on and is also easier to remove. The use of brine has additional benefits over salt or de-icing – it uses a lower amount of salt in the mixture, creating less damage to the landscape after the storm and it does not pit concrete the way salt does. Also, people track salt into facilities where it can damage floors, leading to increased cleaning fees.
